Tick Tock, Carlos…

11623159886_f162d6979c_kWell, if you read nothing else in the rest of this post, read this:

37 Weeks and, no, the baby isn’t here yet.  Thankfully, the one big risk (at least from my end) was averted as I finished up shooting my second to last wedding on Sunday, one which I had no coverage for up until a day or two before the wedding.  That being said, MOMFC is ready for this baby to get here, and I have to say that I’m pretty ready myself.  Bags are packed, rooms are done, house is clean (Thanks, Mom and Dad) and there’s really nothing left but to push this baby out!

Speaking of push, one of the things that I’ve not blogged about yet is the subject of the “Push Present”.  Folks, let’s talk straight here for a second.  I think push gifts are THE dumbest thing in the world.  I get the thought process; you’ve spent 9 months carrying around a child and then you have to go through hours (and hours) of pain just to push a baby out of your nether region.  You should be rewarded a bit, right?  Isn’t the gift of a newborn child a gift enough?

I think we’re grossly overlooking the level of effort that a father also has to put forth in a pregnancy.  Let’s not forget the manual labor of installing a new dishwasher (check), painting a room that a pregnant woman shouldn’t be in (check), putting together furniture and toys (check and check), chauffeuring MOMFC around to appointments, hospitals, late night trips to Chic-Fil-A (double check) and every Babies-R-Us on the planet.  And now you want…jewelry?  I’ll be damned if I’m going to put out more money on a gift of expensive jewelry.

Except, you know…Elise got a push gift.  At the end of the day, I’m a big pushover, and she’s the benefactor of said pushoverness.  I don’t agree with the concept of a “push gift”, and I’ll take that to the grave.  But, at the end of the day, times change.  Brides and Grooms used to not get wedding photos, but thankfully (for my wallet), that tradition has changed.  Hell, back in the day, women definitely weren’t working a 40 hour work week while still growing life.

Aside: We don’t say MOMFC is creating life.  WE created life.  I know.  I was there.

I’ve got my money on baby Egolf arriving this week.  I’m sure there will be downtime in the hospital and definitely before the baby gets here, so I’m hoping to get a few more updates in before the big day.  But, in the event that I get a surprise tonight, I’ve enjoyed the ride so far, and can’t wait to start blogging about the other side!
