Monthly Toys Before He’s Even Here!

_MG_8714I’m like a college freshman signing up for credit cards just to get a t-shirt when it comes to the monthly box subscriptions.  I’m willing to try just about any subscription, to at least see if it’s worth it for a month or two, so when Citrus Lane was brought to my attention, I gave it a few seconds worth of thought, and then realized that our first box was free (with no commitment to subscribe), so there really wasn’t a reason to not sign up!

Granted, our son isn’t even here yet, but we figured we’d try and play our cards right and have the box_MG_8709 arrive right as he got here.  Sort of like a “welcome to the living world” gift box.  Sadly, we’re 12 days from MOMFC’s due date, and there’s been no movement.

That aside, signing up for the box allowed you to picked what amounted to a newborn gift box, so I figured it would be a great opportunity to do another DCDT product review, and let everyone know what I thought about Citrus Lane.

For starters, Citrus Lane comes in a standard month, 3-month, 6-month and year pricing model that is, respectively, $29/month, $24/month, $21/month and $19/month.  My ultimate goal with Citrus Lane was to get items that totaled in value at or more than the price of the box.  Let’s dig into the items and see how we did.

_MG_8710Where Do I Live Soft Book by Tiny Love

MSRP – $12.99, but you can buy it for $12.49 on Amazon.

It should speak volumes about this book that both MOMFC and myself had a lot of fun flipping the pages and playing with each page as we went through the book.  Everything in the book is soft and caters to a child’s need to touch and feel.  We think Baby Egolf is going to have some fun with this book, and there’s not a ton of concern that it’s not good for him!

_MG_8713Bake N Shake Donut Rattle by North American Bear Co.

$30 for a set of 3 on Amazon, Box contained one rattle.

The item description for this says it’s made from soft velour with sprinkle accents, but all I can think of is Homer J. Simpson.  This is a fun little item, but it’s a rattle, so there’s not a ton to call home about.  Honestly, I’m surprised these are as expensive as they are, but at $10 a piece, it helps to boost the value of the box.

Cage Bell by Hohner Kids

$7.50 on HohnerKids.com, $8.19 on Amazon (Amazon has some really odd pricing on these)

This will probably be the first toy that gets put into the “special occasions only” toy box.  Much as one might think a bell would sound, this thing got pretty annoying, pretty quickly, or at least that’s what MOMFC told me while I chased the dog around the house with it.  It’s super baby-safe, but maybe not-so-much parent-safe.

Calendula Baby Care by Weleda

Diaper Rash Cream, $14 on Amazon and Shampoo, $13 on Amazon

I’m going to defer to MOMFC on these, because I’ll probably never open them.  They’re sample sizes, so it’s pretty tough to compare them to what you’d buy in the store.  For the purposes of valuation, I’ll say both are worth $1, total.  This stuff got great reviews on Amazon, and Citrus Lane says it’s really great for sensitive skin.  It’s organic, if that’s your thing, and helps with rashes, dry patches, and eczema.  Citrus Lane also included a 20% off coupon code in the pack.

So what do I think?  Well, with the totals looking like:

Donut Rattle – $10

Cage Bell – $7.50

Soft Book – $12.50

Cream – $1

We’re looking at about $31.  Depending on your subscription plan, that’s either a decent value, or a really good value.  As MOMFC and I signed up for the 6-month plan after getting this box, we saved about $10, and got some items that we might not have ever seen.  Citrus Lane claims that the donut rattle is new this year, so it was pretty neat to get in on the ground floor for this!

If you’ve stuck around this long, then there’s a good chance you’re interested in signing up, too, right?  What would you say if I told you that I could save you 50% on your first box?  Want to do it, just sign up via this link and, not only will you save 50% off of your first box, but you’ll also help DCDT continue to review fun baby and newborn items!  In addition to that, you can use coupon code CLFAMILY15 to save 15% off of your entire purchase of single items on the Citrus Lane store through 10/31/2014!

Thanks for stopping by, and happy shopping!
